Stellate Ganglion Block in Orlando, FL & All Our Locations

If you are suffering from pain in the neck, head, or other areas of the upper body, we may recommend a stellate ganglion block to provide relief. At Advanced Interventional Pain Clinic, we offer this and other pain management services to the residents of Longwood, Ocoee and Orlando, FL.

What is a Stellate Ganglion Block?

A stellate ganglion block is a nerve block technique that is used to interrupt nerve signals along the stellate ganglion nerves. This is done by injecting both a local anesthetic and a steroid medication into the stellate ganglion nerves. These nerves are found in the neck, on either side of the voice box. Damage or inflammation to these nerves can cause significant pain in the neck, head, shoulders, arms or the surrounding areas of the body. This can make daily activities uncomfortable or difficult to perform. Advanced Interventional Pain Clinic offers stellate ganglion block treatments to help patients find relief from conditions that cause this pain.

What is a Stellate Ganglion Block Used to Treat?

The stellate ganglion block is often used to treat chronic pain conditions such as complex regional pain syndrome, shingles pain, phantom limb pain and other conditions that cause neck pain. The stellate ganglion block will block pain signals from being transmitted through the nerves, providing patients with immediate and often long-lasting relief.

What Can I Expect from a Stellate Ganglion Block?

During the stellate ganglion block treatment, a small needle is inserted into the stellate ganglion nerves where pain is believed to be originating. We will ensure that you are adequately numbed for this process. Once the needle is in place, the local anesthetic and steroid medication is injected directly into the group of nerves. The local anesthetic will provide immediate relief, although it will only last for a few hours. Pain may return briefly, but the steroid medication should take effect within a few days, producing the full results of treatment. During your initial visit with one of our doctors, we will determine the best approach for your stellate ganglion block treatment and tell you what you can expect from your treatment.
