About

Primary Specialty: Anesthesiology

Dr. Nam-Kha Pham appreciates seeing the improvement that can be achieved in a person’s life by treating their pain. “It can be life changing,” he said.

Bringing nearly a decade of experience in the pain management field to his work at the Florida Pain and Rehabilitation Associates Inc., Dr. Pham was first drawn to the field because of his ability to meaningfully impact people’s daily lives by altering their relationship with chronic pain.

The University of Florida was the site for not only his bachelor’s degree in basic biological and medical sciences but also his Doctor of Medicine. He also completed his internship, anesthesiology residency and pain medicine fellowship at Duke University in North Carolina.

The pain management field continues to evolve and Dr. Pham is excited about several future developments. “There are many various non-steroid injectable medications that are currently being studied that may help evolve the landscape of spinal injections away from more symptomatic management to an increased role as an alternative treatment to surgery by addressing the underlying problem,” he said. “This includes stem cells, PRP, chemo-nucleolsis and monoclonal antibodies.”

Putting together an individualized treatment plan is key for each patient. Dr. Pham notes that medications are just one aspect of a multimodal approach to treating symptoms. “Pain is a complex response requiring a many-pronged approach,” he said.

His primary concern with patient interaction is for them to know that they are heard and their concerns are addressed. “This means explaining and answering all questions and that they are fully invested in the decisions made regarding their care.”

In his downtime, Dr. Pham enjoys spending quality time with his family and woodworking.
